South Africa is a country situated at the southern tip of Africa. The South African coast stretches 2,798 kilometers and limits both the Atlantic and Indian oceans. To the north of South Africa lie Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland, while the Kingdom of Lesotho is an independent cooperative bounded by South African territory. Modern human beings have inhabited South Africa for more than 100,000 years. Cape Town became a British colony in 1806. European resolution extended during the 1820s as the Boers and the British 1820 Settlers claimed land in the north and east of the country. Conflicts arose between the original inhabitants of the land, the Xhosa and Zulu, and the new European settlers. South Africa is identified for its variety, and eleven official languages are recognised in its constitution. English is the most frequently spoken language in official and marketable public life, however it is only the fifth the largest part spoken home language. South Africa is culturally miscellaneous, with the biggest Caucasian; South Africa holds some of the oldest archaeological sites in Africa. Widespread remnant remains at the Sterkfontein, Kromdraai and Makapansgat caves advise that diverse australopithecines existed in South Africa from about three million years ago . These were succeeded by a variety of species of Homo, including Homo habilis, Homo erectus and current humans, Homo sapiens. South Africa has a usually moderate climate, due in part to it being bounded by the Atlantic and Indian Oceans on three sides, by its position in the climatically milder southern hemisphere and due to the standard elevation rising gradually towards the north and further inland. Due to this assorted topography and oceanic pressure, a vast variety of climatic zones survive. The climatic zones vary, from the excessive desert of the southern Namib in the farthest northwest to the luxuriant subtropical climate in the east along the Mozambique border and the Indian ocean. From the east, the land rapidly rises over a mountainous escarpment towards the inside plateau recognized as the Highveld. Even though South Africa is confidential as semi-arid, there is significant difference in climate as well as landscape. |
